ROLE OVERVIEW

This is a critical role in the Store6 space - preparing food, planning menus using seasonal and local produce and overseeing other staff. We pride ourselves on offering an inclusive menu with ample gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options providing delicious and ethical refreshments for our visitors.

We are a newly established, independent business looking for a motivated, talented and hard working foodie who wants to become part of a successful team over the years to come. This is an exciting opportunity for a chef / cook to utilise their own ideas and offerings.


ABOUT STORE6

We are an independent business that is passionate about colour, fun, creativity and community. We are part cafe and shop - offering all things colourful from pencil cases to roller skates. We also believe art and design is for everyone - we stock lovely pieces to help you have a go at your own creations such as sculpting clay and screen printing kits. We have a collaboration corner which is open to local young artists to take over and display their creations!

Our food offering is consciously designed to be inclusive - offering vegan alternatives to nearly every dish on our menu.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and execute cafe menu, cake choices, drinks and snacks as well as keeping the cafe shop stocked with local coffee grounds/beans 
  • Line manage the cafe assistant
  • Oversee day to day cafe operations including summarising the daily orders, completing health and safety paperwork, cleaning and equipment maintenance
  • Prepare freshly baked goodies and treats to be sold in the cafe
  • Oversee re-stocking and summarise orders for drinks, equipment, materials etc
  • Ensure cafe is kept clean and hygienic in line with environmental health standards
  • Creative use of cafe displays and space to articulate Store6 key messages and seasonal offerings
  • Work with the Store6 Owner to ensure supplier invoices are logged and paid on time
  • Produce and share material / imagery to support the Store6 marketing plan - e.g. Foodie Friday Social Media posts
  • Ensure high standards of customer service are met at all times
  • Ensure that the financial targets are met and that the cafe returns a profit every month
  • Create and implement a staffing plan for the cafe
  • Other duties as reasonably required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Excellent and imaginative cook
  • Food Safety Certificate Level 2, personal alcohol licence holder (or a willingness to obtain one)
  • Previous experience of running a kitchen  
  • Experience of cooking with seasonal, local produce  
  • Affinity for numbers and able to analyse and improve profit margin  
  • Experience of managing staff and volunteers  
  • Motivated and able to motivate a team  
  • Superb customer service  
  • Love of local food and farming, awareness of the key ethical issues within the food industry
  • Knowledge of the Dorset food scene  
  • Determination to make the café succeed  
  • Able to cook a variety of café foods including drinks, preserves, cakes, ice creams, snacks and main meals, for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans
